We strive to teach the building blocks of landscape painting while nurturing each persons individual style and personality. Every good landscape painting is rooted in sound painting principles and the truth that we find in nature. In order for a painting to be of personal expression, the artist must infuse it with his or her own imagination, personality and inventiveness. We work with each student toward this important goal.

We've been teaching workshops for more than a dozen years and have had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of wonderful students. Our instruction is unique in that the student works with two workshop instructors who enjoy sharing their knowledge. Our team approach presents more than one way of seeing and hearing the same idea which is invaluable to the learning experience. Every day is filled with demonstrations, individual guidance and a group critique. If you are a beginning student, we will take you through the necessary steps to get you acquainted with the fundamentals of painting outdoors. If you are more advanced, we will work with you on more advanced ideas about composition, color and expressive brushwork and help you find your individual expression.

Even the best photo reference will distort sizes and change the colors and value of everything in your subject. We will show you how to use the photo reference as a visual guide and how to give your paintings a sense of light.
